Barring the composition of a trio and the attempt to bring humor I don't see any Street-photography like spontaneity in this image. While there is a blurred line in Street photography as to what is staged and what is not, this one is a blatantly staged photograph.
I'm not saying it's a bad photograph, all I'm saying is it doesn't look like it meets the SP aesthetics. I'm seriously concerned as to what '"Hardcore" Street Photography' really means? Hardcore refers to the hardcore dedication to the genre. How far into the pool did you find this photo? Looking at the date this was taken 9 years ago. I don't think the current admins would like to make the effort to edit the pool from that long ago. It also shows how much of a change this group has gone through in terms of what a good street photograph was thought to be, what a street photograph can be and how much the bar has been raised.
Originally posted 55 months ago. The pool used to be much more permissive in curation in the early years, so it's no surprise a few images like this are back there. Many more such images have been removed from the pool in multiple cleaning passes, so over all it should look pretty good now.
Alvin Paringit : This photo features in the last page of the pool and I'd say it definitely caught my attention but not from an SP point of view but from Photo journalistic point of view.
There is simply nothing extraordinary happening here which can't be recreated anywhere else. And at the end of the day it's just another protest with some added plastic bags. There is more art in the act here and less in the photograph and I don't think it's a good idea to showcase someone else's art as your art. Your definition of 'hardcore' which is hardcore dedication to the genre, simply implies that you need to have a prolific stream of street photography to qualify here.
What if a photographer is not a dedicated street photographer but every once in a while when he captures a street shot he blows everyone else's work out of the water? I think your definition of 'hardcore' was slightly flawed here. If you think this picture doesn't meet the standards of what this group has evolved to, then why still keep the picture there? It confuses me as an outsider as to why keep this in the same pool where you have something as divine as this: 55 months ago permalink.
I fucking love it! This in my opinion is 'Hardcore' steet photography. It seems we are unable to meet your standards. Fortunately for you, I'm sure there are many groups out there that are more in keeping with your tastes. Traipsing into the group and waxing pedantic about your particular definition of hardcore is a good way to get yourself banned quick. This group has been going for a solid decade, and so far, against all odds, has flourished without your expert opinion to guide it.

I chatted with a few people online, and thought it may be a good idea to make a list of 50 street photographers people should follow on Flickr — who may not be as well known.
