I think the only thing that does use the old style spring terminals is the AM radio aerial but I would hope that couldn't short out the whole receiver, if it could I'd be tempted to disconnect it altogether as I only rarely listen to the tuner and if I do it's always FM as AM sounds awful. He informed me that it wouldnt turn on, so I knew before plugging the receiver on that it was bad. I want to know how to fix it, the receiver wont show anything aside from the standby red led blinking and a clicking noise near the Power Supply. Rating Newest Oldest. This stops any further damage until the fault is rectified. Protection mode will reset itself if you power off at the mains and unplug everything. Disconnect the mains lead from the wall socket. Leave the unit unplugged for 20 minutes.

Reconnect power only. Try switching on. If it still goes in to protection with no speakers attached then something has blown inside. If the fault was caused by the speaker cables on one channel got shorting out then I'd say have a look at the output transistors, the 0. The amp has several sets of transistors, resistors and bias pots. In order to make an effective repair then you're going to need some tools and some basic skills. You'll need to know how to use a multimeter, and be comfortable dismantling the amp, and know what to do with a soldering iron.

If you don't have those skills already then it's best to take the amp to someone who does and pay them for their time. Bear this in mind when costing up the price of any repairs. Components are relatively cheap and if you have the skills to do a proper and safe DIY repair on an amp that you're planning to keep for personal use then the value makes little difference.

Remember though that the AV market moves very quickly. HDMI has gone through several key developments - ARC, 3D, p upscaling - and the hasn't got these because it is quite an old amp now. Well, to be honest I read the listing too fast before I used my auction sniper, it was ending in 2 minutes and only had 2 bids with no reserve, I happened to miss the section that said "standby light is blinking was not tested further" So I'll have to just check it out when it gets here I've gotten lucky with a few ebay "as-is" items before, both car audio amps, one was perfectly fine, the other just needed an input lead re-soldered.

However after pressing all the buttons, the only one that shows up on the display is Zone 2, it lets me choose what source I want for zone 2 or to turn it off, then it will click off and blink the stand-by light again.

Anyone have any idea what this could mean? I'm going to replace all the fuses just to see if i can get anywhere, I put in an email to Onkyo to see if the warranty is still valid, we shall see. Check your left channel speaker wire for possible short at receiver terminals or speaker terminals. I gave the go-ahead to do the repair. Talk about a quick turn-around time! I'll post back once I get it back home. I will pick it up some time this week. I'm glad you got service.
