4-stroke SAITO Engines / SAITO FAT - Twin Cylinder engine - entertainingthings.com
Mark Forums Read. Glow Engines Discuss RC glow engines. Thread Tools. This engine is about 10 years old and has never been run. I am not familiar with twins and since there are no installation instructions have several questions. On the crankcase backplate there is a nipple. What is it for and what do I need to do with it. Since this is a twin and it will be cowl enclosed I guess I will have to run 2 remote glow starters to them.
When I terminate them on the fusalage can I merry them together and use one glow driver or do I have to run each one seperately use 2 glow drivers to start the engine? Also can you recommend a suitable remote starter. Fueling - do I run 1 line from the fuel tank, T it off and then run the 2 lines to the carb intakes? Pressure - do I just run 1 line to one of the mufflers? Would you use a 14 oz fuel tank with this engine? Any other tips would be very much appreciated. I own several 90 size four stroke engines but this is a bit out of my league.
View Public Profile. Send a private message to Rene Find More Posts by Rene View iTrader Profile. My Feedback: Sullivan and others make twin remote glow lighters, I guess your carb is different than mine, mine has a single carb.
Your engine must be the early version of the twin which has a single crankpin and rocker covers like the Saito single rocker covers. The crankcase vent just needs to be run somewhere of your chioce and drain. Send a private message to Hobbsy. Find More Posts by Hobbsy.
My Feedback: 5. Some of the. I rebuilt one for a friend. As for fuel lines, 1 medium size line with a "T" will work fine. For pressure, a line from one muffler is fine also. I would use a 16 once or better tank. Twins will usually have less power than a single so you have to run it a little harder which burns more fuel. What plane is this engine going in? The engine has a vent nipple up front. What I was inquiring about was that in addition is has another nipple on the back of the back plate?? Any ideas? Send a private message to Woody Find More Posts by Woody Hobbsy, I did find a remote glow pug for a twin that has 1 lead to each of the glow plugs and terminates to one but am unsure of what kind of glow battery to use. Will the standard glow plug battery work or do I need something else? I think McDaniel got absorbed by SonicTronics.
Hobbsy, yes I was just taking about for the initial startup. I am trying to get away from using 2 seperate glow remotes. Has the Tower Super Hotshot worked okay for you? Like all full size radial engines. Because of this design the engine is simple in construction , light in weight, and highly efficient. To maintain a positive crankcase pressure, and eliminate harmful blowby gases, and to ensure complete and smooth lubrication throughout the engine and protect from inside rust, a vane type air pump is employed.
If you are really fussy, put a piece of fuel tubing on it and run it to some place in the Fuse where it will get clean air. Otherwise just leave it open.
I use a single clunk in the tank and a T to the two fuel inlets and have never had a problem. A 12 ounce tank is sufficient for a ten minute flight with plenty left for several go-arounds. I used the exhaust pressure to the tank for a while and then found it to be unneccesary and no longer use it.
I use a prop on it and find the performance to be about like a good sport. Send a private message to RJConnet. RC Connet - thanks for the information. You said that you found out that you do not use the back pressure from the exhaust, does that mean you use the second line from the fuel take as an overflow only and run it out the side of the plane?
Also, do you agree with the other reply regarding the dual glow remotes, using a MA nicad to heat the glow plugs up for starting? I looked on Towers web site and they have a Hobbico Hot Shot 2 which is a Sanyo mAH - will this be okay or do you have another suggestion. I am trying to stay away from using 2 completely seperate glow remotes. Thanks for the help. Rene, I have three twins, a Saito.
Rene, Yes, I simply run the vent tube located in the very top of the tank to a piece of fuel tubing and out the bottom of the Fuse. I use a third line to fuel because the engine is cowled. Now I simply start the engine with a couple of Ni CD cells in series with one lead to each plug, disconnect and fly. I haven't lost a cylinder in flight in several years now.
I think or mAh would be way overkill, I only charge my starter cells maybe twice in a flying season. I am presently flying mine on a GP Super-Sportster 60 size Attached Thumbnails. RJConnet, thanks. Noticed you have 3 needle valve extensions coming out of the top of the cowl - what is the one in the middle for? Rene, I'm a big time Sullivan fan, I have many of their products and have never gotten anything from them even slightly sub-par. Flyin King. These engines have Hemi Heads on them and have a great amount of torque.
I have the original box and specs that includes breakin instructions. I'm new to this forum and don't know how to go about emailing you a copy of these specs. My son who put me onto this site will be visiting me soon and i'll ask him to assist me. Send a private message to Flyin King. Find More Posts by Flyin King. Thanks for replying Flying King. I did try the Sullivan remote twin head lock and the Super Hot Shot glow igniter, both worked fine. Any tricks to tuning, this engine has one needle valve for each cylinder?
A tip was passed on to me by a master model builder on the FA 90 T. It was don't follow the set up instructions for the FA 90 T. The specs say max rpm is 10K. When in fact,if you can get rpm or more consider yourself lucky.
I did follow the specs on break in and ran it in the spec'd rpm range lean on the breakin. The engine has been running fine at rpm spinning a wood prop.
Flying King, thanks for the reply. Also, the instruction sheet calls for a 15X3 prop. Do you think the 14X6 Master Airscrew 4 stroke prop will be okay. Posting Rules. You may not post new threads. BB code is On. Smilies are On. Forum Rules. Thread Tools Show Printable Version.
