They are characterized by heavy armored plates on their bodies and sucker-shaped mouths. Many plecostomus can breathe air due to modifications in their digestive tracts.

For care and maintenance purposes, Farlowella and Otocinclus catfish can be included in this group. They occupy a wide range of habitats, although a number of species have very limited ranges and are only found in certain parts of specific rivers. In high flow areas they use their suckermouths to attach themselves to rocks and submerged trees to keep from being swept downstream. Loricariid catfish are typically found in soft water with a low pH in the wild, however, many species sold today are commercially raised and tolerate a much wider range of water chemistry.

A pH between 7. With so many species of suckermouth catfish to choose from, no matter what size aquarium or type of fish you own there is one just right for you. Plecostomus tend to be secretive, so caves, hollow logs and other size-appropriate hiding places should be available in the aquarium. Moderate to good circulation should be provided to simulate the fast moving rivers many species inhabit in the wild. Decorate the tank with driftwood for refuge as well as a source of food.

Many suckermouth catfish are nocturnal and spend a good portion of the day hiding in a crevice or under an overhang. However, some will adapt to aquarium life and be more sociable during the day, especially at feeding time. Loricariids are compatible with most aquarium fish, although tank mates should be roughly the same size as they are. While plecostomus and other suckermouth catfish are typically sold as algae eaters, some species are carnivorous, feeding on carion in the wild.

Others feed almost exclusively on wood, so it is best to research the dietary needs of any species you buy. While not much is known about the spawning behavior of many rarer species, a fair number of suckermouth catfish have been bred in captivity. They typically spawn in caves, with the male caring for the eggs until they hatch.

Fry are voracious and must be fed frequently on a high protein diet such as microworms, brine shrimp nauplii, sinking tablets or disc-type foods. For intentional spawning, a separate aquarium should be set up and breeders should be fed live or frozen foods for several weeks to condition them.

We usually have one or more Vandercook parts being made for us at any given point both to maintain inventory and to provide for one of a kind parts. After a long wait, we finally have a good supply of the Vandercook crescent CS back in stock--see the first 2 listings. New in are Vandercook bearing supports for the SP This is a part that we engineered to correct a problem that almost all SPs encounter as they age or are in constant use. The right and left supports as designed have stampings in critical ink roller support areas that get deformed or break over extended use or in abusive use such as encountered in schools.

Our new supports have no stampings. They are listed at the bottom of this page. Per each in quantities of 1 to 5. Our Hollo Drills are manufactured with a special alloy of the finest steels: chromium, vanadium, and molybdenum. They resist wear, stay sharp longer, and won't clog, chip, or twist.

The razor sharp cutting edges are carefully machined to precise tolerances. Every Hollo Drill is thoroughly inspected before it leaves the factory. Our paper drills are guaranteed against breakage with normal use. The first part is the bearing block, X, and the block includes the screw shown.

The stem and knob are listed separately with their respective part numbers. The threads that go through the bearing block are often worn to the point the bearing block will no longer keep the stem tight--often caused by the application of brute force to turn the knob when the locking screw is holding the stem in place.

Lighten up and learn how to use these parts to avoid costly repairs. Broken knobs happen when vise grips, pliers, or channel locks are used to turn the knob. When properly installed, the locking screw on the bearing block is backed off, the knob then turns the stem with finger pressure, and when the roller height is at the proper position, the locking screw is tightened.

Will also work as a replacement side guide on earlier Vandercook models. All of the Vandercook parts we sell are either original Vandercook parts or new parts made directly from original Vandercook blueprints. New parts available elsewhere are "backward engineered" items and may not conform to the original specifications as to material, tolerances, or quality.

Some manuals are less in price because of the amount of material contained in the manual. A Vandercook manual does not tell you how to print--they assumed anyone buying a press had the necessary skills to operate it but needed the basic maintenance information plus references to part numbers. When requesting parts from NA Graphics, and those are not listed in this web site, we need to know the press model and part number that can be found in the manual.

For parts not listed, we have the original Vandercook blueprints and can research what ever it is that may be required, but the manual is an essential part of owning any piece of printing equipment. Each pair of grippers includes a set of right and left gripper fingers. Original bolts on these presses were usually made out of cast iron that will bend and snap under use or attempts to tighten or loosen. These bolts are new and are turned from steel but are exact replacement parts for the original.

The fellow who makes these for us is also a letterpress printer. This is the bearing only, and not the complete bearing block assembly which is available from us as well as the plastic knob and stem. These bearings are "staked" in place in the bearing block ring and it may be necessary for a machine shop to do the work of replacing the bearing.

The manual shows how to replace these, but it is difficult. The two photos show what the typical SP cylinder side plate looks like with a broken spring hanging from the stud, and the second photo shows the same side plate cleaned up with new springs sitting on the side plate.

We recommend buying and replacing these in pairs, and it would be prudent to keep a backup set with the press. The SP is very similar to the SP except the spring is longer. The adjoining picture shows the SP side plate shown above cleaned up and with 4 new springs sitting on the plate. Replacement of the springs can be done without taking the cylinder assembly apart.

Every Heidelberg platen owner should have a spare shear collar on hand as a backup. Heidelberg part T Also used on the 3, 4 and New Style press, but you need to add a bend to fit to the gripper bar on those presses.

Price includes new mounting screw. Priced per each, two are required per roller. The bearing block assembly for the SP rollers contains four basic parts as shown in the illustration. The black plastic knob should be attached to the stem with a drop of Loctite. One or all of these parts may need replacing based on wear or inappropriate use.

Not included are the Nyliners, or the hold down spring and studs added to the rear roller block assembly in later production year models. Let not the Vandercook manual confuse you as these parts put together for the bearing block assembly are listed in some versions of the SP manual as X, and that is the assembly print number which shows the individual parts listed here.

A SP requires 4 bearing blocks, and in addition the X Nyliners are required 4 each for the roller core ends and these fit into the bearing blocks. These are designed to take the wear from a steel core of the roller rotating in the steel shaft hole in the bearing block. These are supposed to be replaced as the Nyliners wear, and especially if the flange breaks off. Without Nyliners, the roller's cores will destroy the bearing blocks through wear and there is no way to accurately control ink roller setting.

Replace all 4 at the same time. Nyliners should have a drop of oil added occasionally. Other Nyliners for other Vandercook models are in stock but are not listed on this website at present--use the Vandercook part number and we can supply what you need.

Don't know the part number? Bed plate is used in place of a galley to bring metal type or bases up to type high of. Older models use a square bar that we do not stock.

Priced by the each. The original pulley was made from plastic and these shatter, as shown in the picture, with age and use. These are machined from cast iron as direct replacements using the same mounting screws.
