I like starting a week fresh with a beautiful canvass of fresh veggies and meat to choose from. Planning the week: After I know what is going on with the remnants and leftovers from the week prior, I sit down to make a list.

Instead of just writing down meats, veggies, etc. Am I craving fried chicken? Smothered pork chops? Green beans? I also consider what is happening this week--am I involved in events at night? Does my son have a dinner play date with a friend? So for broiled drumsticks, I think about what I need. Do I have chicken in the freezer? Do I have a spice mix I want to use or am I making my own? Do I have wild rice? I'll do this for three or four days of the week.

More salt? Did I run out of flour? That kind of thing. You could rewrite the list into categories, like dairy at the top followed by produce, meat, dry goods. Use fresh produce and meat early in the week. When you choose to meal plan, you free up so much mental space. No more last minutes scrambles to get dinner on the table.

Pick a main genre and then pick 7 sub categories one for each day of the week. Genre One: Meat-Based — chicken, hamburger, seafood, red meat, pork… you get the idea.

Genre Two: Grain-Based — rice, pasta, bread, corn, potatoes, beans, lentils. This is what I personally do. Write all 7 of those genres on a piece of paper and write down all the meals that you can think that fits the category. These are the lists that I use most often and any hyperlinks in the lists will take you to recipes on my blog. Fajitas Meat enchiladas Sweet potato and black bean enchiladas Traditional ground beef tacos Slow cooker pork tacos Smothered burritos Taco salad with chili Quinoa stuffed bell peppers Tamale pie.

Spaghetti with meatballs Slow cooker veggie lasagna Easy baked pasta Creamy bacon pasta with tomatoes Ravioli Butternut squash lasagna roll-ups. Stir-fry Peanut noodles Green curry Red curry Fried rice.

Oven sandwiches Egg sandwiches Baked potatoes Stovetop mac-n-cheese Grilled cheese and tomato soup store-bought soup Quesadillas. This is what makes it easy too!

You can make lists for your favorite slow cooker meals, meatless meals, or anything else that you think you might want. This is your master list. I recommend saving it on your computer under a very easy title so you can look it up. Lucky for you, I have a free monthly calendar for you to download!

Now use the lists you just brainstormed for each category and fill in the calendar with what sounds good and what you want to make. Tuesdays are always really busy with music lessons and Scouts, so I plan on really easy, fast, or slow cooker meals for that night. This is also a great time to specify trying a new recipe. One day a week I like to do this on Saturday or Sunday , sit down with your monthly meal plan and a blank weekly meal plan.

Fill in your week and make note of any sides you might want to add or plan on making. Make a shopping list for the week and plan your shopping day. When you get home from your shopping trip I shop Monday mornings , you can plan to do a bit of meal prep to make your nights even easier more on that coming soon. Then all that is left is to use your plan and love it! No more digging around the cupboards trying to put dinner together.

You can make a few months worth of monthly meal plans and then just cycle through them. If you only have energy for planning one meal a day, I find planning dinner the most helpful. I have a list of my go-tos inside one of my cabinets for an easy reminder. Those few ideas are quick, easy, and I generally have everything for most of them.

I love cold cereal on the weekend because the kids can get it for themselves and I can stay in bed an extra minute or two. You can plan out your snacks or you can keep a list of things that you can eat inside your cupboard with your list of easy lunch ideas.

One thing that it seems like moms all over the world struggle with is meal planning. Turns out, our families want to eat dinner every night. Go figure! While using a weekly meal planner consistently is challenging for sure, just winging it usually leads to stress, too much dining out, and less healthy foods.

The problem is, meal planning is kind of a pain in the rear end. I am often asked how I do meal planning for our large family and what my weekly meal planner looks like. You do that cool block schedule thing with Mexican Mondays, Italian Tuesdays, etc.

Not usually. But here are some things I discovered about myself. So, how does this oh-so-busy, homeschooling mom of 6 do meal planning, then!?!?! How do I fill out that weekly meal planner each week? My system uses this meal planning template, which is a part of my Proverbial Homemaker Planner , and 6 simple steps.

The Master List is a trick I learned somewhere down the line. Basically, you build a list of meals ideas that already work for your family and add to it as you go. You could keep such a list on your phone, in a little notepad, or on the back of your meal planning sheet. Start by listing off all the dinners that you already make that your family enjoys.

Most of them, anyway. Divide your list into breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks. I like to do my meal plan weekly on Saturdays. You choose the number of weeks and a planning day that works best for you. But, you do what works for you! Download this free weekly meal planner! I hope you love this simple system as much as I do.

More time for snuggling on the couch with a good read-aloud, getting some projects done, or yelling out the back door at the kids to stop foraging with the chickens… because it was a joke, for crying out loud! I started to do a Menu Plan similar to this on my own a little bit last year… but with 6 kids, 7 and under — um, well you know… ;-p I need to try again now that the baby is almost 4 months. I like the loose meal plan. Thank you! I would love to be able to use this to help out with quick good meals for my family. Between working full time, schooling, violin lessons, and soccer, meals become drive thru based. I missing being in my kitchen and making meals. This will help me. Having a backup plan is vital. I try using a Master Plan as much as possible but it always seems like there are days when the thought of making that meal seem more daunting than others. Meal planning is so important!

And it makes life so much less stressful! For us it is extra helpful, as we are without a kitchen. We lost our home and everything to toxic mold and are temporarily living in a basement while we try and fundraise to rebuild our home.

I have relied on the instant pot and a toaster oven to prepare the meals for our family now for 2. Sadly our instant pot broke. So we are trying to save up for a new one. Meal planning has helped us so much to keep things simple and stress free. And I need to do it more. I never realized how much not having an instant pot is just down right devastating in some ways now that I have had one and I am without! So, yes every mom should own one! It has made everything so much easier!

And as a busy homeschooling mother of a special needs child who has to fill up her day with so much, schooling, cooking, trying to build a house out of nothing, and caring for the many needs of our family, having one thing planned out that I dont need to stress about on the daily is a huge help! I have been waiting for someone to buy me an Instant Pot. Ah, a kindred spirit. When I finally allowed myself some flexibility in meal planning, it was a breath of fresh air.

I am great at using the meal plan the first weeks, but then it all fizzles out. The plan b list might just be the solution I need. Especially the instructions to go forage with the chickens hehehe. I really need to plan out quick meals. The instant pot is perfect for quick easy meals.
